Babbitt: ritratto di un compositore seriale (documentario di Robert Hilferty)

Il compositore e insegnante americano Milton Babbitt è scomparso sabato 29 gennaio 2011 all'età di 94 anni. Per anni, il giornalista e filmmaker newyorchese Robert Hilferty è andato costruendo un documentario su Babbitt. Si tratta di uno sguardo amorevole e non convenzionale su un uomo ritenuto da molti un compositore di musica "difficile". Hilferty ha lasciato il film incompiuto alla sua morte, nel 2009. La compositrice e antica studente di Babbitt Laura Karpman ha ora completato il film di Hliferty.

The American composer and teacher Milton Babbitt died Saturday, 29 January 2011 at age 94. For years, New York-based journalist and filmmaker Robert Hilferty had been constructing a documentary on Babbitt. It was a quirky, loving look at a man regarded by many as a composer of "difficult" music. Hilferty left the film unfinished when he died in 2009. Composer and former Babbitt student Laura Karpman has now completed Hilferty's film.
